Withers wrote to his cousin telling him about the military moves of the various state regiments, the military plans of Generals Patterson, Taylor, Wool, and Santa Anna concerning Camargo, Monterrrey, Saltillo, and Buena Vista. Besides the military information given in his letters, Withers describes the natural beauty of Monterrey and gives a detailed description of the Mexican house in which they were quartered.
